Public displays are used a variety of contexts, from utility\uddriven information displays to playful entertainment displays.\udSpherical displays offer new opportunities for interaction\udin public spaces, allowing users to face each other\udduring interaction and explore content from a variety of\udangles and perspectives. This paper presents a playful installation\udthat places a spherical display at the centre of a\udplayful environment embedded with interactive elements.\udThe installation, called Enter the Circle, involves eight\udchair-sized boxes filled with interactive lights that can be\udcontrolled by touching the spherical display. The boxes are\udplaced in a ring around the display, and passers-by must\ud“enter the circle” to explore and play with the installation.\udWe evaluated this installation in a pedestrianized walkway\udfor three hours over an evening, collecting on-screen logs\udand video data. This paper presents a novel evaluation of a\udspherical display in a public space, discusses an experimental\uddesign concept that blends displays with embedded\udinteraction, and analyses real world interaction with the\udinstallation.
